Zelenskyy visits the German base in Sanitz where Ukrainian soldiers master Patriot systems
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accompanied by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited the 21st anti-aircraft missile group base in Sanitz, where the Ukrainian defenders are training to operate Patriot air defense system, the Presidental Office reported.
Zelenskyy inspected the battery that Germany will hand over to Ukraine after the crew completes its training. The President thanked Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany and all the German people for the new defense package, including air defense sustem, and totalling more than $750 million.
He also expressed gratitude for reduced time of air defense systems' production and their crew training, as "this time is measured in the lives of Ukrainians."

Patriot training usually lasts nine months, but the Bundeswehr organized a kind of "turbo training" for Ukrainian soldiers, reducing the period to six weeks, German newspaper Spiegel reported. The Ukrainian Defense Forces already have experience working with Soviet anti-aircraft systems, so they learn very quickly, said the German head of the training department.
100 missiles and the third Patriot air defense system from Germany
Zelenskyy arrived in Germany to participate in the Ukraine Recovery Conference on June 11. He also planned to meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Germany will transfer the third Patriot air defense system, IRIS-T, Gepard, missiles and ammunition to Ukraine "in the coming weeks and months," Scholz said at the opening ceremony of the Recovery Conference.
The weapons will be included in the new 500-mln military aid package ($537,6 million), German Foreign Ministry previously clarified.

100 additional missiles for Patriot transfer carried out jointly with Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway was announced by Boris Pistorius.
Germany handed over the second Patriot air defense system to Ukraine in April.
