The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that SBS Transit and SMRT have made improvements to 17 bus services between April and June 2011.

The improvements were made after a quarterly review of bus services by LTA and include deploying higher capacity buses or adding more bus trips along sectors that have experienced consistent heavy ridership.

SBS Transit has added more bus trips to bus services 3, 81, 98, 222, 225 and 315 while four double-deck buses have been deployed on services 37 and 246. Six single-deck buses were added to services 39, 163, 200, 235 and 400.

SMRT added more bus trips and three so-called bendy buses -- buses that can bend in the middle -- during weekday peak periods and weekends to service 806.

An additional trip was added to the current two trips that are running during weekday morning peak hours on Express Bus Service 971E. Daily late night bus trips have also been added to Service 189A for residents heading home from Bukit Batok MRT Station. Additionally, SMRT has also added more bus trips and deployed one more bus on Service 75.

This round of improvements will add 187 more bus trips to the total in Singapore and will help improve commuters' travel experience.

Mr Colin Lim, LTA's group director for vehicle and transit licensing, said: "We are pleased that the bus operators are continuing to make service improvements. LTA will continue to work closely with the operators to improve bus services."
