The one question on Singaporeans' minds was left unanswered by American pop icon Lady Gaga on Thursday.

When a question was raised during a press conference on the controversial Fun Pack Song, which received much criticism for changing the lyrics to her Bad Romance hit, the emcee was quick to interrupt the reporter, reminding the media that Lady Gaga was only taking questions about her new album.

This was the only opportunity local media had to meet the singer to ask about the song, which NDP organisers had adapted without her record company's permission.

The 25-year-old was in Singapore to perform for SingTel's AMPed 'Born This Way' Lady Gaga showcase held at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) the same night, in celebration of the music service's second anniversary.

In a 10-minute media conference, which started an hour late, the singer talked about her latest 'The Edge of Glory' video seems almost too simple to be a Gaga production, when compared to her previous music videos of epic proportions.

It shows her singing and dancing on a fire escape and walking down an empty street at night.

"I wanted to make something truly indicative of how I feel right now in my life," explained the superstar on Thursday at a media conference held at the ArtScience Museum.

'The Edge of Glory' is the third single in Gaga's 'Born this Way' album, which has sold more than seven million copies worldwide in a month.

Donning shades and a metallic turquoise beehive, the fashion icon shared how she used to "put on all my clothes" and dance on the fire escape outside her tiny New York apartment.

"I have this whole elaborate video planned for 'The Edge of Glory' but once I got on that fire escape and I danced to that one outfit, I realised that it was time to just have a moment of acknowledgment for myself, as a 25-year-old who's been working so hard from the bottom up my whole life," said Lady Gaga.

The 80s inspired power ballad is "a song about being on the other side of life but also about celebrating how far you come," she described.

The five-and-a-half minute music video also features Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, who died from complications from a stroke last month.

Said Lady Gaga, "It's very strange and beautiful, the way it all turned out. But sometimes art imitates life, and that video, for me, was destiny."

Later at night, the singer performed eight songs, including Bad Romance, for about 3,000 people at MBS.In the midst of her energetic 45-minute performance that included several costume changes, she teared during one of the quieter moments.

For the little monsters who couldn't attend her SingTel showcase, take heart. Lady Gaga promises she will be back next year as part of an Asian tour.

In the meantime, here's what the Mother Monster has to say about her album 'Born This Way' and fashion.
