SingTel warns customers of phishing emails

SingTel has warned its SingNet customers of suspicious emails, requesting for their personal information to avoid having their SingNet accounts terminated.

The telecommunications company posted a Facebook message on Tuesday warning customers of emails from a sender named "SingTel" who has been requesting for their password and advised its customers to ignore such emails. SingTel also warned that such emails are "part of an illegal phishing scam to obtain customers' personal information and passwords."

One such email said, "Hello, this is to inform you that Singnet.com.sg Web Mail team has decided to check Webmail email account to avoid your @Singnet.com.sg Web Mail secure account closed, so in this regard that respond to this email immediately with the information given below."

The sender, who signed off as "SingnetWeb Support Team", also requested for its phishing target to provide their name, email address, password, date of birth, mobile number and country.

For customers who have replied to those emails with their password, they should change their password on SingTel's website immediately.

"To safeguard your interests, we recommend that customers ignore emails from unfamiliar sources and exercise caution when providing personal details online and in competitions, lucky draws, surveys and feedback forms," SingTel said.
