A 62-year-old man involved in a e-bike incident along Hougang Avenue 7 was on Monday (29 May) charged in court with one count of committing a negligent act.

Yue Kim Ming is said to have endangered the personal safety of others by beating a red light while riding on his power-assisted bicycle on 18 May. Yue was arrested on 27 May.

Separately, a police report was filed against Yue on 19 May after he allegedly assaulted a 69-year-old pedestrian on the same day that he beat the red light. Yue has not been charged for the assault. Investigation into the assault is ongoing.

A Facebook post by the victim’s daughter, known by her username Hui Ying, alleged that her father was crossing the road at about 9.30pm that day when the assault occurred.

According to her, the rider had been speeding when a plastic bag her father held “accidentally brushed the man on his helmet”.

The rider stopped and allegedly hit her father, leading to two passers-by coming to her father’s aid. The rider fled when the 69-year-old said he was going to call the police.

Hui Ying said that her father was hospitalised for the injuries and a heart attack triggered by the incident.

If convicted of a negligent act which endangers the safety of others, Yue could be jailed for up to three months and/or fined up to $1,500.
