The Singapore Police Force have arrested two men for causing public alarm after they left three unattended bags at Aljunied MRT station on Friday.

On Friday morning (26 May) at 9:52am, the police were alerted to bags left unattended at the concourse of Aljunied MRT station, said a police statement on Friday night. The bags contained only food and household items, said the police.

Working together with SMRT staff, police traced and identified the owners of the bags and detained at the station at about 10:15am. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men, aged 25 and 27, intentionally left their bags at the concourse area while they went to the toilet. Police investigations are ongoing.

On 2 April, a 39-year-old Chinese national left a luggage bag unattended at Hougang MRT station, leading to a security alert. Train services in both directions were paused, and commuters were also asked to leave the station.

On 18 April, a 69-year-old man was arrested for leaving a white substance – which turned out to be baking powder – at Woodleigh MRT station. The presence of the substance caused a temporary closure of the MRT station for about three hours.

“The Police treat all security threats seriously and will not hesitate to take action against anyone who cause public alarm,” said the statement. Members of the public are advised to report any suspicious items or behaviour to the transport authorities or the police.
