Atari reveals fitness app with incentives for gamers

Gaming company Atari has announced that a gamified fitness app called Atari Fit will be available for mobile devices in January.

To create the app, Atari joined forces with Michael Porter, a US National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer and performance enhancement specialist.

Porter provided over 150 choreographed workouts that include total body circuits, running programs and customizable routines.

Users will be able to exercise on their own or with friends all over the world and Atari will reward those who make strides in their fitness programs by unlocking its classic games such as Pong, Centipede, Super Breakout and more.

For the first time, leaderboards will allow players of these games to rank their skills worldwide.

Atari Fit will be compatible with popular wearable fitness trackers Fitbit and RunKeeper and fitness apps such as Google Health.

The app itself, Atari Fit, will track distance, speed, pace, time and calories burned.
