Body of Aloysius Pang brought back to Singapore, late actor to be accorded military funeral

Late actor Aloysius Pang will be accorded a military funeral before being cremated at Mandai Crematorium on Sunday (27 January), said the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) in a statement.

Pang’s body was flown back on a Republic of Singapore Air Force KC-135R tanker aircraft from Auckland Airport, New Zealand, at around 7am (Singapore time) on Friday, and landed at Paya Lebar Air Base at around 6pm.

The late Corporal First Class (National Service) Pang was accorded due honours by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) through a homecoming ramp ceremony with Chief of Army Major-General Goh Si Hou in attendance, a Guard Of Honour and fellow soldiers of the Artillery Formation.

His family witnessed the ceremony, said Mindef.

Also present was Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen – accompanied by Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong – who met a family member of Pang’s to offer Mindef’s and the SAF’s condolences.

Dr Ng also conveyed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s personal condolences to the family and paid his respects to Pang.

“The Ministry of Defence and the Singapore Armed Forces will continue to render assistance and support to the family of the late CFC (NS) Pang,” said Mindef.

Pang’s wake at Blk 82A MacPherson Lane will be open to members of the public from Saturday noon until Sunday noon, said NoonTalk Media on Friday. A private wake for the family will take place on Saturday morning.

“We respectfully appreciate the privacy given during this period,” said the artiste management agency.

Pang suffered grave injuries to his chest and abdominal areas last Saturday afternoon after being caught between the end of the gun barrel and the interior of a Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer that he and two other SAF personnel were servicing.

At the time of the incident, Pang, an armament technician from the 268th Battalion Singapore Artillery, was one of more than 500 soldiers participating in Exercise Thunder Warrior in New Zealand.

Pang succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night, making him the fourth SAF-training related fatality in 16 months.
