Celebrities attempt fuel efficiency record
At the 2014 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia held earlier in February this year in Manila, a group of four Asian celebrities, hailing from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and The Philippines, attempted to see how far they could go on just a single litre of fuel.
The group of celebrities, which included Singaporean radio deejay Jean Danker, managed to cover a total distance of 218.95 kilometres while piloting a specially-designed prototype vehicle on a circuit which was set up in Manila for the Eco-Marathon event. The celebrities were chosen following a challenge in each of their respective nations, which saw them drive a set route in their countries while using the least amount of Shell FuelSave petrol.
Singapore’s representative, deejay Jean Danker, managed to achieve a fuel consumption figure of 58.86km/L, which places her in second place among the four celebrities, behind Bianca Gonzalez of The Philippines. Danker cites her experience in meeting the Singaporean student teams from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) that were taking part in the Shell Eco-Marathon in helping her achieve the record.
Danker said: “I’m so proud to be a part of this team. However, the real stars (at this event) are the students. It’s been an honour to be part of their Shell Eco-Marathon experience and to see such dedication and creativity in approaching future energy needs and challenges. ”
She added: “Before embarking on this challenge I had no idea how easy it could be to become more fuel efficient and manage my motoring costs. Now I know simple things like choosing the right fuel and making a few small changes to our driving habits can make a big difference.”
