A man who stole more than $35,000 worth of jewellery from a shop in Choa Chu Kang was charged in court on Wednesday (19 December).

Singaporean Toh Xin Ann, 23, was arrested on Monday, two days after he allgedly committed the crime at Gold Scale Jewels, located inside the Yew Tee Square shopping complex.

He faces one count of stealing three gold necklaces and one gold pendant with a total value of $35,886.

According to a previous report by The Straits Times, Toh had asked to look at several pieces of jewellery before running away with them. Two store employees ran after him but could not catch him.

Police arrested him through investigations and after receiving information from a member of the public. If convicted, Toh could be jailed up to seven years and fined.

His next court appearance will be on 26 December.
