Couples who regularly send each other steamy texts and social media messages have better sex lives, a new study has found.

But there’s a serious dark side to sexting – with couples who ‘sext’ frequently more likely to experience conflict in their relationships.

Frequent sexters are also more likely to indulge in ‘infidelity-related’ behaviour on social media – and watch more porn.

Purdue University researchers asked 615 people in committed relationships about how much they sexted.

Most couples don’t do it, the researchers found, and were just as happy with their partners (albeit not in the bedroom).

People in same-sex relationships were more likely to sext, the researchers found.

Michelle Drouin of Purdue University said, ‘Sexting may help couples with intimacy and to spice things up, but we definitely did see the negative side of too much of a good thing.’
