SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of another five cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (25 October), taking the country’s total case count to 57,970.

Two of the cases are local transmissions and both reside in migrant worker dormitories. There are no new community cases, said the ministry.

Of the two cases residing in dormitories, one was detected “from our bi-weekly Rostered Routine Testing of workers living in dormitories, even though he is asymptomatic”, the ministry said. The other was tested for COVID-19 when he developed acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms.

Of the three imported cases, Case 58140 is a Singapore Permanent Resident who returned from the UK, and Case 58142 is a Dependant’s Pass holder who arrived from the UAE. The remaining case (Case 58143) is a Short-Term Visit Pass holder who arrived from Indonesia. “She was allowed entry into Singapore to visit her child who is a Singapore Permanent Resident. They had all been placed on SHN (Stay-Home Notice) upon arrival in Singapore and were tested while serving SHN,” the MOH said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from five cases in the week before, to two in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at two cases a week in the past two weeks.

99% of total cases have recovered; none in ICU

With 14 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 57,858 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 51 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 33 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
