Chinese squads Xtreme Gaming (XG) and LGD Gaming have been knocked out in 7th-8th place after falling to Western Europe's Team Liquid and reigning The International (TI) champions Team Spirit in the first round of the lower bracket.
Here's how all the matches in day two of the BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 Playoffs went down:
Team Spirit 2-0 LGD Gaming
After getting knocked down to the lower bracket by Gaimin Gladiators in day one of the Playoffs, Spirit bounced back by soundly sweeping LGD, 2-0, to continue their campaign in BetBoom Dacha Dubai.
Spirit came out swinging to start the series as they dominated LGD in a 31-minute game one to the tune of a 31-12 kill lead. Ilya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk led the way for the reigning TI champions, putting up 13 kills and 11 assists on just one death as Slark. Denis "Larl" Sigitov on Puck also pitched in with a clean five kills and 12 assists.
Game two was an even more one-sided stomp, as Spirit secured the 2-0 series victory in another 31-minute rout with a lopsided 29-7 kill advantage. Yatoro had another stellar performance, this time on Sven, by racking up 11 kills and nine assists on one death while Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov on Mars had seven kills and 16 assists against one death.
Team Liquid 2-0 Xtreme Gaming
The second series of the day saw Liquid eliminate a struggling XG, who finished the Group Stage with a tournament-best 8-2 record but were swept in the first round of the upper bracket by Team Falcons.
Liquid kicked things off by grounding out a 56-minute win in game one behind a tri-core of Templar Assassin for Michael "miCKe" Vu, a mid Dazzle for Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, and an offlane Alchemist for Neta "33" Shapira. MiCKe led the way with 12 kills and 14 assists on two deaths out of Liquid's 34-17 kill lead while 33 finished with nine kills and a game-high 20 assists against three deaths.
XG put up a better fight in game two, though it still ended up being a one-sided affair as Liquid ended their run in Dubai in just under 37 minutes of action.
It was a full team effort for Liquid in game two, where they racked up a 22-16 kill lead, as the core trio of miCKe on Templar Assassin, Nisha on Puck, and 33 on Brewmaster combined for 11 kills and 33 assists on eight deaths while the support duo of Samuel "Boxi" Svahn on Rubick and Aydin "Insania" Sarkohi on Enchantress put up a combined 11 kills and 28 assists on eight deaths.
With the day's results, Xtreme Gaming and LGD exit the tournament in 7th-8th place and with US$35,000 in consolation. Meanwhile, Team Spirit and Team Liquid have guaranteed themselves at least a 5th-6th place finish as well as US$45,000 in winnings.
Team Spirit and Team Liquid will next play in the lower bracket quarterfinals in day four of the Playoffs, where they will face the losers of the upper bracket semifinals.
The upper bracket semifinals will take place on day three of the Playoffs, which will see Gaimin Gladiators matched up against BetBoom Team and Team Falcons set to go against Azure Ray.
