Family makes second police report after Assunta Hospital withholds medical report

Tinasha’s family lodges formal complaint against Assunta Hospital

The parents of Tinasha Ganesan Rao, who died suddenly at the Assunta Hospital last Friday, have lodged a second police report after the hospital refused to release their daughter’s medical report.

Tinasha's uncle, Ramesh Inthirarasa, said that besides lodging the second police report, they would also seek legal counsel.

Ramesh said the hospital's management had informed the family that they were withholding the report because the family had held a press conference on Friday.

"The report is now apparently with the hospital's legal department.

"We do not need further aggravation and sorrow to add to the grief we are already suffering following Tinasha's tragic passing," Ramesh told The Malaysian Insider, claiming that the family had already suffered enough anguish

Tinasha's family had been scheduled to meet the hospital's administration last Friday where they were supposed to have received a copy of the report.

However, the 14-year-old girl’s family held a press conference on Friday morning at the office of Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran.

Following the press conference, the family invited members of the media to visit Tinasha who was warded at the Intensive Care Unit of Assunta Hospital.

However, Tinasha, who was being kept alive on a life support machine, passed away at 11.40am and her distraught family never met the hospital's administration.

Her body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre morgue for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Tinasha's family has accused Assunta Hospital of negligence, while the hospital's chief executive officer Peter Leong has insisted all procedures were followed.

The Malaysian Insider understands that the post-mortem report will take three to four weeks to be completed before it is released to the family.

Leong had previously expressed regret that Tinasha's family had chosen to approach the media instead of using the relevant channels to voice their grievances. – November 11, 2014.
