The first weekend of December saw Singaporeans take part in two mass participation events for charity.

On Saturday (1 December) evening, over 2,000 participants braved the rain to take part in the Skechers Friendship Walk at Gardens by the Bay East.

With a host of obstacles over a 5km route, family and friends worked hand-in-hand to clear the obstacles and motivate one another.

After the walk, participants enjoyed a mini-carnival with food and fringe activities. They also got to wind down with a screening of blockbuster hit Black Panther under the night sky.

This event started in the United States in 2009, and after editions in China and Malaysia, finally made its way to Singapore this year. Organised in support of children with special needs, the Singapore event raised funds for Sunbeam Place, a residential home for the Children’s Society.

Vincent Leung, president of Skechers Southeast Asia, said, “We’re glad to know that we have contributed and made a difference to the lives of the children at Sunbeam Place. It’s also an added bonus seeing all these parents with their children spending quality time together.”

Santa Run for Wishes

On Sunday at the Singapore Sports Hub, more than 2,700 participants took part in the fifth edition of Santa Run for Wishes, organised by the Make-A-Wish Singapore.

Guest-of-Honour Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Law and Health, flagged off the event, which consisted of a 2.5km joy run and a 5km fun run. There were also 450 participants in the new 10km competitive run this year.

The foundation aims to raise over $500,000 by end of December, with full proceeds going towards fulfilling more wishes of children with life-threatening conditions. Members of the public can make a donation or refer eligible children/young adults between 3 and 18 years old with a life-threatening condition.
