New characters Neuvillette and Wriothesley, Hu Tao and Venti reruns

Genshin Impact's roster of playable characters from Fontaine will be expanding in version 4.1, as the 5-star duo of Neuvillette and Wriothesley will be the fourth and fifth characters coming from the region.

Neuvillette

Neuvillette is the Chief Justice of Fontaine, an imposing and powerful figure that embodies the nation's justice system as a fair and impartial judge.

He was featured prominently in the first two Acts of the Fontaine Archon Quest in version 4.0 and will once again play an important role in version 4.1.

In battle, Neuvillette is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst user and boasts a powerful kit focused on his Charged Attack, which unleashes a powerful torrent of water in a straight line to cleanse the battlefield of enemies at the cost of his own health.

Neuvillette's skill and burst helps him keep his barrage of Charged Attacks going by providing him with healing and making it charge up faster.

Wriothesley

Wriothesley is the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide, the underwater fortress that houses Fontaine's convicted criminals.

As the warden watching over some of the most dangerous individuals in the nation, Wriothesley is no stranger to using his fists to assert his authority — owing to his past as an underground pugilist.

Wriothesley is a 5-star Cryo Catalyst user who combines his innate boxing skills with a pair of powerful mechanical gauntlets to tear through enemies.

His kit focuses on his Normal and Charged Attacks, which gets more powerful if his current health is below a certain threshold. His skill and burst help with this playstyle by consuming his health to enhance his attacks and providing additional sources of damage.

Neuvillette will make his debut in the first half of version 4.1 alongside a rerun for the 5-star Pyro Polearm user Hu Tao.

Meanwhile, Wriothesley will enter the fray in the second half of the update alongside a rerun for the Anemo Archon Venti.

Signature weapons for Neuvillette and Wriothesley, new Fontaine 4-star weapons

The arrival of two new 5-star characters means we're getting two new 5-star weapons for them too. Not only that, version 4.1 will also see the first set of 4-star gacha weapons for Fontaine.

The two new 5-star weapons are both Catalysts, namely the 'Tome of the Eternal Flow' and 'Cashflow Supervision', which are the signature weapons for Neuvillette and Wriothesley respectively.

The Tome of the Eternal Flow will be available in the weapon banner for the first half of version 4.1 alongside the 'Staff of Homa', Hu Tao's signature weapon. Meanwhile, the Cashflow Supervision will be available in the second half of the update alongside the 'Elegy of the End', Venti's signature.

Meanwhile, the first set of weapons from the Fontaine series will include the Sword 'The Dockhand's Assistant', the Claymore 'Portable Power Saw', the Polearm 'Prospector's Drill', and the Bow 'Range Gauge'.

Fontaine Archon Quests continue, more Story Quests

Genshin Impact version 4.1 will see the continuation of the Fontaine Archon Quest with Act III 'To the Stars Shining in the Depths' and Act IV 'Cataclysm's Quickening'.

As the version trailer suggests, the fallout from the first two Acts of the Fontaine Archon Quest has set the stage for the Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino to make her entrance and demand to know why her fellow Harbinger, Childe, was taken to the Fortress of Meropide.

Neuvillette then dispatches the Traveler to the fortress, under the guise of being imprisoned with false charges, in order to find out what happened to Childe and meet with Wriothesley.

Aside from a continuation of the Fontaine Archon Quest, version 4.1 will also see the addition of the Story Quests for Neuvillette and Wriothesley.

New areas

The upcoming update will also expand the Fontaine map with two new areas: the Fotress of Meropide and the ruined Fontaine Research Institute.

The Fortress of Meropide

The Fortress of Meropide is an underwater prison that houses Fontaine's convicted criminals. The laws of the nation don't apply here and order is maintained by Wriothesley and an army of Clockwork Meka. There is also a factory located at the bottom of the fortress where Clockwork Meka are produced through the labor of the prisoners there.

The Fontaine Research Institute

The Fontaine Research Institute was once the beating heart of the nation's technological advancement. However, an experiment aimed to help Fontaine survive its prophesied cataclysm caused a massive explosion that left the institute in ruins and with mysterious 'Allogravity-Condensed Water Bodies' floating in mid-air.

New enemies

The release of new areas also means there are new dangers to be found, including two new World Bosses and mob enemy types.

The first new World Boss is the Experimental Field Generator, an out-of-control research device in the Fontaine Research Institute that can counteract the effects of gravity, which players can use in combat to increase the height of their jumps and avoid attacks.

Millennial Pearl Seahorse

Meanwhile, the Millennial Pearl Seahorse is as dangerous as it is elegant, gliding through the air as if it was water before using Electro to enhance its attacks and protect itself against all who dare accost it.

With the Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino finally entering the picture, her agents have also arrived as a new type of mob enemy called Fatui Operatives. These enemies have Anemo and Cryo variants and use both melee and long-range attacks.

There's also a new type of Clockwork Meka located in Fontaine's underwater areas called the Deepwater Assault Mek, which Travelers should be wary of whenever they explore the nation's waters.

Third anniversary celebration, top-up reset, new events

With Genshin Impact turning three years old on 28 September, there will be a celebratory check-in event called 'Bathing in Flowing Moonlight' where Travelers can earn tons of rewards. These include 1,600 Primogems, 4 Fragile Resin, the 'Itty Bitty Octobaby' pet, and the 'Portable Aerodynamic Gelatinous Bubble Generator' gadget.

Once version 4.1 is released, the top-up bonus for Genesis Crystals in the Gift Shop will be reset, meaning Travelers can once again get double the amount of Genesis Crystals upon their first purchase.

Aside from the game's third anniversary event, version 4.1's other major event will be 'Waterborne Poetry', which came about after Hu Tao and Venti promised to write poems together during this year's Lantern Rite. As a result, characters from Mondstadt and Liyue will be coming together in this new poetry-centric event.

Among the rewards that can be acquired in Waterborne Poetry will be the 4-star Catalyst 'Ballad of the Boundless Blue' and its refinement material.

Other events in version 4.1 include 'Dodoco's Bombastic Adventure', 'Radiant Harvest', and 'Peaks and Troughs of Life'.

Dodoco's Bombastic Adventure will see the Traveler help entertain Klee in a mini-game where they must use bombs to make targets explode on a grid.

Radiant Harvest will then task Travelers with collecting escaped lab creatures in underwater exploration challenges. Meanwhile, Peaks and Troughs of Life will be a combat-focused event with special mechanics to help Travelers defeat powerful enemies.

There will also be reruns of the Overflowing Mastery event in version 4.1 to help Travelers collect more character enhancement materials.

Aside from the changes listed above, Genshin Impact version 4.1 will include a long-awaited revamp of the game's Daily Commissions system. Under this new system called Adventure Encounters — which is similar to the one used in another HoYoverse title, Honkai: Star Rail — Travelers will earn Encounter Points after they complete a quest, participate in an event, carry out exploration, and collect materials.

This doesn't mean that Daily Commissions are going away though, as they now share a claim attempt and reward cap with the Encounter Points.

This means that players can freely choose what they want to do in order to get their daily fix of Primogems, such as completing two Daily Commissions and two Encounter Point challenges, for example.
