Genshin Impact's much-anticipated version 4.0 update, which will see the release of Fontaine the Nation of Hydro and Justice, is just around the corner.

However, the hype train for the new nation is gaining even more steam as developer HoYoverse announced on Monday (14 August) that Neuvillette and Wriothesley will be the two new characters making their debuts in version 4.1!

While HoYoverse did not indicate what rarities Neuvillette and Wriothesley will have, it's safe to say from their dashing designs alone that the two of them will be 5-stars. Here's everything we know about these two so far!

Despite being one of the most prominent figures in Fontaine, Neuvillette is a figure completely shrouded in mystery. What we do know about him however, is that he is the Hydro Archon's right hand man and the Chief Justice of the Court of Fontaine.

Although he is under the rule of Focalors, Neuvilette has no good opinions of her, notably saying in Nahida's drip marketing last year that the Hydro Archon was prone to hysterics. The people of Fontaine and the Melusine however, hold Neuvillette in extremely high regard.

Neuvillette will be a Hydro character, though his drip marketing indicates that he doesn't possess a Vision AND a constellation — a first for any character in Genshin Impact. Even the Archons themselves have constellations, which may point to Neuvillette being someone that predates even the Archons and Celestia.

This gives way to a popular theory amongst players that Neuvillette may be a member of the primordial elemental dragons, also known as the Seven Sovereigns, that have existed and ruled Teyvat since the dawn of time. His lack of a Vision and constellation, as well as the vertical, reptilian pupils of his eyes, are further evidence supporting this theory.

Eitherway, we're excited to learn more about Neuvillette and his role in Fontaine's story once he's released!

Wriothesley is another prominent figure in Fontaine, holding the lofty rank of Duke while also serving as the administrator of the Fortress of Meropide, an underwater prison which houses the nation's convicted criminals.

Wriothesley may have many distinguished titles to his name, but he doesn't let his achievements get to his head. His dismissal of praise speaks strongly about his tendency to be serious with his work, as no corruption can infiltrate his watery fortress and get away with it safely.

Wriothesley wields a Cryo Vision with the constellation 'Cerberus', the three-headed dog that guards the entrance to the underworld in Greek mythology. It's a very fitting constellation as Wriothesley is the one who guards the entrance to what might only be hell for Fontaine's baddest bunch!

Neuvillette and Wriothesley will be making their debuts in Genshin Impact version 4.1, which is expected to be released in late September.

Genshin Impact version 4.0 will be released on 16 August, with the sibling trio of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet being the first set of playable characters from the region debuting in the new version.

Aside from a new region and new characters, version 4.0 also brings with it a new underwater diving mechanic, a revamped party setup menu, multi-layered map, and more!
