Furina and Charlotte take the floor
Genshin Impact version 4.2 adds two new characters to the Fontaine roster, most noteworthy being the 5-star Hydro Sword user Furina, also known as the Hydro Archon Focalors. The Steambird journalist Charlotte has also taken the field as a 4-star Cryo Catalyst user.
As an Archon, Furina is sure to be a strong character and a worthy addition to your party. Her kit boasts off-field Hydro DMG, healing, damage buffs, the ability to switch Arkhe alignments, and more!
Furina has the unique ability to switch between Ousia and Pneuma Arkhe alignment modes by using her charged attack, with her outfit even reflecting which mode she's currently in. How her skill works will also be affected by which alignment she is currently in.
While in Ousia mode, Furina's skill summons three Hydro companions that will attack enemies at the cost of a portion of all party members' HP with each attack. Meanwhile, the skill's Pneuma mode summons a lone Hydro creature that heals all party members.
Aside from granting Furina versatility in combat, having a summon active on the field from her skill also allows her to walk on water (Kokomi mains found shriveled up in a sardine can).
Furina's burst lets her deal Hydro DMG in an area around her and accumulate Fanfare points as the HP of all party members increase or decrease. Fanfare points will buff the damage of her allies as well as the amount of healing they will receive.
Charlotte's job as a journalist sometimes puts her in sticky situations, but luckily she isn't a slouch in fights thanks to her Kamera, which she uses in combat. Her skill deals Cryo DMG to targeted enemies at intervals, with the damage also being boosted if enemies are marked using the skill's hold mode.
Charlotte's burst makes her a great support, as creates an area where all allies within will be healed while all enemies within be attacked. She also receives buffs depending on the nationalities of her teammates. If Charlotte is paired with Fontaine characters, she gets a healing bonus, while partnering her up with non-Fontaine characters boosts her Cryo DMG.
Baizhu, Cyno, and Ayato get reruns
Furina won't be the only 5-star available for players to pull for in version 4.2, as three others will also be getting their reruns. The Dendro Catalyst user Baizhu will be featured alongside Furina in the first half of the upcoming version while the second half features the Electro Polearm user Cyno and the Hydro Sword user Kamisato Ayato.
Fontaine Archon Quest reaches climax
The game's story in version 4.2 sees Fontaine teetering on the brink of destruction in Act V of the Fontaine Archon Quest: 'Masquerade of the Guilty'. With the prophecied destruction of the nation from a flood of Primordial Seawater looming, Furina opens herself up to judgment and receives the sentence of death...
At this critical juncture, Fontaine needs all hands on deck, as the Traveler will even join forces with the Fatui Harbinger, Arlecchino, to prevent the coming catastrophe.
Aside from the fifth act of the Fontaine Archon Quest, version 4.2 will also add the first installment of Furina's Story Quest. If you're eager to find out more about the Hydro Archon, you wouldn't wanna miss this one.
Genshin Impact version 4.2 also extends Fontaine's map eastward to two new locations: Erinnyes Forest and Morte Region. These new areas also open up more opportunities to embark on quests, including the continuation of the World Quest "The Narzissenkreuz Adventure" in the Tower of Ipsissimus.
With two new characters coming in this version, there will also be two new bosses that players will have to fight in order to acquire ascension materials for Furina and Charlotte. The All-devouring Narwhal will be the game's latest Weekly Boss while the Hydro Tulpa will be a new world boss.
Travelers will need to be very prepared if they choose to challenge the All-Devouring Narwhal, an otherworldly monster that traveled through the Primordial Sea to bring destruction to Fontaine.
This new Weekly Boss has two phases. First, players must dodge the massive area-of-effect attacks from all directions coming from its monstrous whale form. Succeeding in this will advance them to the second phase, where they must combat with the menacing warrior known as 'The Foul' who resides within the All-Devouring Narwhal.
Meanwhile, the Hydro Tulpa is a malevolent being of pure Hydro that has emerged from its slumber to wreak havoc. It possesses the unique ability to create miniature versions of itself, called Half-Tulpas, which it can then absorb to become more powerful.
Version 4.2 will see the coming of new events as well as throwbacks to previous ones, namely "Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures," "Lil' Fungi's Fun-Tastic Fiesta," "Misty Dungeon: Realm of Water," "Graph Adversarial Technology Experiment Log," and other events!
Taking part in these events will yield bountiful rewards such as Refinement Materials, Primogems, Crown of Insight, and Character EXP Materials.
Genshin Impact version version 4.2 will be released on 8 November. For more details on what's to come in this new update, check out the full preview livestream here.
