Geylang Lor 24A death: Bangladeshi national charged for causing grievous hurt

A Bangladeshi national was on Tuesday (11 July) charged for his involvement in an incident which ended with the death of a 42-year-old man at Geylang.

Rana Soyel, 35, was charged with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Lim Leong Tat by punching him on his face and slamming his head against the pavement, causing his death. The incident occurred between 7am and 7.43am on Sunday (9 July). The suspect is alleged to have committed the offence in common intention with three other Bangladeshi men.

Media reports said that the victim was found motionless at Geylang Lorong 24A and had head and upper body injuries. He was pronounced dead at 8:05am.

If convicted, he faces a maximum jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, and/or caning.

He will return to court on 18 July.

Another Bangladeshi man, aged 30, was arrested in connection with the case.

Investigations against the other suspect are still ongoing.

Two other alleged accomplices are on the run.
