Johor Sultan visits Woodlands North terminus site for upcoming RTS Link
SINGAPORE — Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and chief minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi visited the Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Woodlands North terminus site on Thursday morning (21 July).
Singapore's Transport Minister S Iswaran hosted the visit, during which Sultan Ibrahim was briefed on ongoing bore piling marine works for the construction of the RTS Link viaduct.
Sultan Ibrahim also witnessed the rock removal process using a controlled blasting method.
"When opened for service in end-2026, the RTS Link will improve connectivity between Singapore and Johor, and further strengthen our ties," said Iswaran in a Facebook post.
Iswaran presented Sultan Ibrahim with a memento depicting architectural features of the viaduct.
Sultan Ibrahim, who is on a three-day visit to Singapore from Wednesday, is also accompanied by his wife, Raja Zarith Sofiah, crown prince Tunku Ismail and his wife, Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda, and other state officials.
On Wednesday, he met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob separately. He was also conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from the National University of Singapore by Halimah, who is also chancellor of the university.
Sultan Ibrahim's visit comes two months after Lee and his wife Ho Ching received top awards from the Sultan in Johor.
Lee received the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order, Dato’ Sri Paduka Mahkota Johor (SPMJ – Order of the Crown of Johor) – the highest honour in Johor. Meanwhile, Ho received the First Class, Grand Commander of the Order, Dato’ Sri Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (SMIJ – Order of Sultan Ibrahim of Johor), the first Singaporean recipient of the award.
The RTS Link, which is set to open in end-2026, is a 4km light rail transit shuttle service between Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station.
Trains will be able to move 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the journey between the two stations only taking about five minutes.
Full customs and immigration facilities will be located at both stations, meaning that passengers will only need to clear immigration once at their departure points.
Construction on the Singapore side began in March last year.
