Kendall Jenner Goes Back to the ’90s in Archival Givenchy Dress With Exposed Hips for Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet
Kendall Jenner made a major sartorial statement with her ensemble for the 2024 Met Gala on Monday in New York. The model fashioned an archived piece from one of Givenchy’s 1999 collections.
Jenner’s ornately designed ensemble featured sheer and black tulle with black and brass-colored beading throughout the collar of the piece. More than 100,000 beads adorn the dress and it took roughly 500 hours to hand-embroider the garment as well. The sleeveless gown also featured long, dramatic strands of beading with a tassel-like quality. There were also cutouts along the hips on the front and back of the piece.

The look was designed by Alexander McQueen, who served as the creative director for Givenchy between the years of 1996 to 2001, as part of the fall 1999 haute couture collection. The garment has lived in the Givenchy archives for years — this is the first time it has been presented to the public. It will return to the archives after Jenner wears it for the 2024 Met Gala.
Jenner’s appearance at Monday’s Met Gala marks the model’s 10th time she’s attended the New York event. At the 2023 Met Gala, Jenner fashioned a look courtesy of Marc Jacobs, which featured a dramatic sparkling cape. The theme in 2023 was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

As far as her latest ventures are concerned, Jenner recently teamed up with fellow Met Gala attendee Emma Chamberlain on a limited-edition espresso martini kit. In April, she also starred in a travel bag campaign for Gucci with rumored on-again, off-again partner Bad Bunny.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” nods to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will open to the public on Friday. The 2024 event is notably cochaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
