Maharashtra Govt. recommends Bharat Ratna for Sachin Tendulkar

Mumbai, Apr.5 (ANI): The Maharashtra Government on Thursday said that it had written to the central government to give the country's top civilian award-the Bharat Ratna-to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Describing Tendulkar as the "son of the soil", state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that after India's World Cup victory last year, the state cabinet had met and decided that it would recommend Tendulkar's name for the Bharat Ratna. Chavan made the announcement in the state assembly. (ANI)
