A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (26 December) morning after being caught for allegedly recording videos of women inside a female toilet in NTUC Income Tampines Junction.

The police on Thursday said that they were alerted to a case of criminal trespass and insulting the modesty of a woman at 300 Tampines Avenue 5 at about 1am the day before.

Facebook user Emilia Chong detailed her alleged experience with the man on social media. She said in a post on Wednesday afternoon that she and her friends had caught the man hiding in a cubicle located in the building’s ground-floor female toilet.

She said the suspect had been caught “red-handed” attempting to secretly record videos of them in the toilet. When confronted, the man allegedly manhandled one of them as he “rushed to escape”, she added.

A male friend, who was waiting for the women outside the toilet, managed to apprehend the man with the help of two bystanders.

After going through the man’s phone, Chong wrote that she found “more than 10 videos of girls undressing and peeing”.

Suspect wished victims ‘Merry Christmas’

“He was apologising non-stop and he even said ‘Merry Christmas’,” she added. “Ladies, please beware of your surroundings, especially quiet toilets. It can happen to me, it can happen to any one of us.”

Chong’s post, which also contained photos of the alleged man, has gone viral – with over 1,600 reactions and more than 7,200 shares as of press time.

“The police treat such cases seriously and will not hesitate to take action against anyone who commit such offences,” said the police, adding that investigations into the case are ongoing.

If convicted of criminal trespass, the man could be jailed up to three months, fined up to $1,500, or both.

If convicted of insulting the modesty of a woman, he could be jailed up to one year, fined, or both.
