A suspected peeping Tom has been apprehended by students at the Nanyang Technological University’s Hall of Residence 16 for allegedly taking videos of male students showering.

According to the Nanyang Chronicle, a second-year School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering student was showering at 1am on Thursday (13 October) when he noticed someone holding an iPhone above the cubicle door.

The victim, who wished to be known only as George, exited the cubicle to confront the peeping Tom but the latter hid inside another cubicle. George then called his roommate for help and the duo confronted the suspect when he later exited the bathroom.

Having searched the suspect’s phone, George and his roommate found 66 videos of male students showering, the Chronicle said. The duo said the suspect had tried to delete the videos, which were still found in the phone’s “recently deleted items” folder.

Campus security was notified and the police were called to the scene.

The Singapore Police Force received a call for assistance in relation to the incident at 2.07am on Thursday and that a 24-year-old man had been arrested for possessing obscene material, a Straits Times report said. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, police said.

“Such acts will not be tolerated in my hall. I hope this will be a stern warning to other voyeurs,” said Paul Lee, the student president of Hall 16. He warned other students to be alert while showering.

This is the second reported case of a peeping Tom being caught for allegedly targeting men at Hall 16 this year, the Chronicle said.
