Messages of condolences and hope for #RIPMH370

A day after it was announced that the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 passenger jet was lost with no survivors, people in the region rallied around the families of the crew and passengers of the ill-fated flight.

The front pages of local newspapers in Malaysia on Tuesday (25.03.2014) were printed in black and white as the nation mourn the loss of MAS flight MH370.  People around the region took to social media, offering messages of support and condolences. Some offered prayers and words of comfort to the families of those affected, while others thanked the various nations who had helped in the search.

The daughter of the flight’s chief steward, Maira Elizabeth Nari, shared a picture of her father on Twitter with the caption “We love you, but He loves you more. *hugs*”.

Liverpool football club also sent words of comfort to Maira and the families of those on the plane. “We prayed your father would come home @Gorgxous_ Tonight our thoughts are with you and families of all those lost. You won’t walk alone”. Maira’s tweets about her father, who was a Liverpool fan, had gotten the club’s attention a few days ago.

Flight MH370 had been carrying 239 crew members and passengers across 14 nationalities, with 153 passengers from China. It had been scheduled to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, but went missing shortly after it took off.

After seventeen days of searching the ocean for the missing passenger jet, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced on Monday night that “flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

The prime minister said, “We deeply regret that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board have survived.”

Still, many had questions about the fate of the plane. The biggest questions remained – how and why was the plane last identified to be in the south Indian Ocean, hundreds of kilometers away from its original destination of Beijing?
