After receiving an obscene video involving a woman he knew, Ng Swee Koon uploaded it onto a micro-blogging website in order to circulate it.

Prior to this, he had also already been harassing the 20-year-old woman by sending her sexual text messages.

Separately, the 24-year-old Singaporean, who is currently serving national service, also had sex with a 15-year-old girl twice.

On Wednesday (12 December), Ng was jailed 14 months and fined $8,500 after pleading guilty to one charge of possessing obscene films, one count of transmitting an obscene video, one count of unlawful stalking and two counts of sexual penetration of a minor under 16.

Other similar charges, including one of making an obscene video, were taken into consideration for his sentencing.

Secretly recorded sex video

Ng was introduced to the woman through an online friend, 25-year-old Yew Zhi Ying, in late 2016.

Yew became acquainted with the woman between June and July that same year and had consensual sex with her.

Unbeknownst to the woman, however, Yew had secretly recorded their sexual encounter with his mobile phone. He then sent the video to Ng.

Yew was dealt with by the State Courts in May this year.

Ng subsequently became friends with the woman and the two met for lunch. However, the woman refused to meet him again after their first encounter.

Continuous sexual harassment

Between November and December 2016, Ng began harassing the woman by sending her texts and questions with sexual connotations. The woman ignored him and blocked his calls.

Ng continued sending her text messages – usually between the 9pm and 10pm – during the two months.

Between January and March last year, Ng uploaded the obscene video of the woman onto the Tumblr micro-blogging website before deleting it on his phone. Ng knew that the video would be circulated by others.

The woman began receiving harassing text messages from Yew and other unknown individuals. She later learnt that her mobile number had been posted on Tumblr. One of her friends also chanced upon the obscene video and informed her about it.

The woman filed a police report on 21 April last year.

Ng’s mobile phone and laptop were seized on 30 June that year. Police officers managed to recover 17 obscene videos from Ng’s phone.

Accused had sex with underaged girl

The same month his devices were seized, Ng came to meet a 15-year-old girl through a dating website known as OkCupid.

Ng later met the student and the two had sex in a park’s public toilet. A few days later, the pair met again and had unprotected sex in Ng’s bedroom.

Michael Chia, Ng’s lawyer, said that his client’s offences were “an aberration” from his normal way of life and that Ng was “emotionally immature” when he committed the offences.

Ng, who has been diagnosed with having an adjustment disorder with depressive mood, was suffering from an episode of his condition when he had sex with the underaged girl.

He has since responded well to psychiatric help, said the lawyer.
