You can now earn LinkPoints with the NTUC’s loyalty reward programme when you pay for food and other goods with your EZ-Link card at certain retail outlets in Singapore.

EZ-Link has joined forces with NTUC Social Enterprises to award one LinkPoint for every $2 spent at more than 30,000 acceptance points in Singapore, including hawker centres, 7-11 outlets and Guardian pharmacies.

The LinkPoints can then be redeemed for rewards or used to offset purchases at Plus! partner outlets with the Plus! card. For example, they can be used to offset the price of purchases at FairPrice supermarkets or Caltex petrol kiosks.

The points are issued by NTUC Link, the social enterprise managing the Plus! consumer loyalty rewards programme, which has 2 million members.

To earn LinkPoints, EZ-Link card holders have to link the two programmes by downloading the EZ-Link app on their smartphones.

NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing, who was the guest of honour at the launch of the tie-up on Thursday (1 February) at Tampines Mall, expressed hopes that the partnership would give the national e-payment drive a shot in the arm.

“We hope that cashless payments in Singapore will not be something that people feel apprehension (towards) when they embark on this, especially for the older generation. EZ-Link has a very good track record of how people have been able to use this over the many years for their transport services, so with this extension, we hope that everybody will feel that it’s… almost no fuss to use a cashless payment system,” said Chan, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Separately, in the second quarter of this year, customers at Cheers convenience stores can also top up their EZ-Link cards directly with the change that they receive from their purchases when they pay with cash.
