SEA Games: Host Malaysia grouped with favourites Philippines in basketball

Hosts Malaysia were drawn into the same group with gold medal favourites Philippines in basketball for the SEA Games 2017.

The draw, conducted on Saturday (8 July) in Kuala Lumpur saw both Malaysia and Philippines placed in Group A, along with Thailand and Myanmar.

Philippines have won the gold medal at the basketball competition 11 times in a row. Basketball has featured 17 out of 18 times at the biennial sports meet.

The only time Philippines failed to win gold was 18 years ago, when they lost it to Malaysia at the 1989 edition of the Games in Kuala Lumpur.

The 2015 silver medallists Indonesia and 2015 bronze medallists Singapore were drawn into Group B. Joining them in the group are Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

The basketball games will be held at the MABA Stadium in KL from 20-26 August. Tickets are on sale now.
