A Singaporean man who was said to be missing overseas for a week has made contact with his family, according to a Facebook post by his wife.

In a Facebook message to Yahoo News Singapore, Barbara Tan said, “Kay contacted me this morning at 9.10am on a borrowed phone and the first thing he said was, ‘hello, what’s happening?’ He was oblivious at the amount of action that had happened the last few days.”

According to a post by Tan, her husband Immanuel Kay Kok Yong last communicated with her via WeChat on 14 July (Friday).

Kay, 54, who is working in Shenzhen as a sales manager, was reported to have lost contact with Singapore-based Tan on 14 July. Tan wrote in an earlier Facebook post that her husband likely went missing in Hong Kong, which is where he was on business when they last made contact.

Tan lodged a missing persons report with the Singapore police.

Early Friday morning (21 July), Tan wrote that her husband finally got in touch with her. “He is safe! Got pick pocketed and lost phone, passport and money. Spent a few days at local police station in the outskirts of Guangzhou cos no identification papers,” she wrote on Facebook.

She told Yahoo News Singapore, “We are just very thankful Kay is found and safe. The GuangZhou Consulate told my sister that Kay has found his passport and the issue with the local police should be resolved.”
