Girl, 16, arrested for allegedly starting fires along Circuit Road

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire at a Circuit Road HDB block.

In a news release on Sunday (30 December), police said they were alerted at about 3.30am on Saturday to a case of fire at the void deck for Block 34 Circuit Road.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the suspect set fire to a mattress at the void deck of the block. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The teenager’s identity was established via officers’ ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras. She was arrested at the vicinity of Block 65 Circuit Road on the same day.

Teen suspected of two earlier fires

The suspect is also believed to have been involved in other similar cases of mischief by fire.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that these earlier cases involve the suspect setting fire to a dustbin at the void deck of Block 36 Circuit Road and to a broom on the 14th floor of the same block.

Anyone convicted of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property faces a jail term of up to seven years along with a possible fine.
