Teen, 14, charged with murdering 49-year-old father in Changi

SINGAPORE — A 14-year-old male teenager was charged with murdering his father in Changi on Friday (11 December).

The police said in a statement that they received a call for assistance at a residential unit along Flora Road on the same day at about 10.10am. The area is near landmarks including Changi Prison Complex and the Japanese School Singapore.

Upon their arrival, officers found a 49-year-old man injured and lying motionless. The man was unconscious when he was conveyed to the Changi General Hospital, where he subsequently died, said the police. The teenager was arrested at the scene.

He will be remanded for psychiatric observation. The next mention of his case is on 31 December.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of murder in Singapore carries the death penalty.
