SINGAPORE — A food manufacturing company has been fined $3,000 for hygiene lapses and poor maintenance of its premises, said the Singapore Food Agency in a media statement on Wednesday (30 October).

Dolford Food Manufacturing – which produces soybean-based products such as tofu, beancurd skin and meat substitutes – was found to have several hygiene lapses during a routine SFA inspection on 26 July. The lapses include:

  • Widespread cockroach infestation;

  • Structural damages (flooring, wall tiles, doors) that were visibly dirty, including pooling of water;

  • Poor housekeeping.

All finished food products and semi-processed food items on the premises were disposed of immediately. Dolford’s operating licence was also suspended by SFA from 30 July to 7 August while it was rectifying the lapses and taking measures to improve the cleanliness of its premises.

A check on Dolford’s website shows that its retail partners include Giant, Sheng Siong, NTUC FairPrice, TungLok, Prime Supermarket and Big Box.

SFA said that food operators who fail to meet food hygiene and safety requirements can be fined up to $5,000. Should the offences continue after conviction, the operators may be fined up to $100 for every day which the offences continue.

Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them. They should provide feedback via SFA’s online feedback form or call its contact centre at 68052871 with details for follow-up investigations.
