Transport services to extend operating hours on New Year's Eve

SINGAPORE – Transport operators SMRT and SBS Transit will extend operational hours for trains and selected bus services on New Year’s Eve.

In a post put up on its Facebook page on Friday (27 December), SMRT said that there will be extended train services on the North-South, East-West and Circle Lines, as well as selected bus services.

The last northbound train to Jurong East, eastbound train to Pasir Ris and westbound train to Tuas Link will depart from City Hall MRT Station at 2.15am on 1 January. The last southbound train to Marina South Pier will leave from the same station at 1.58am.

Meanwhile on the Circle Line, the last train from Dhoby Ghaut to HarbourFront will depart at 1.41am, while the last train from HarbourFront to Dhoby Ghaut will leave at 1.38am.

Operational hours for feeder bus services at four bus interchanges will also be extended past midnight on 1 January. The bus services are:

  • Bukit Panjang: 920, 922, 973A (Last bus timing: 3.10am)

  • Choa Chu Kang: 300, 301, 302, 307, 983A (Last bus timing: 3.23am)

  • Sembawang: 859A, 883A (Last bus timing: 3.15am)

  • Woodlands: 901, 911, 912, 913. (Last bus timing: 3.10am)

Additionally, service timings for several Basic Bus, City Direct and Express Bus services will be changed to the afternoon, as offices will be closed earlier on New Year’s Eve. The services are: 981, 653, 656, 657, 951E, 963E, 971E, 982E.

Meanwhile, SBS Transit also announced operational-hour extensions to the North East Line (NEL), the Downtown Line (DTL), the Sengkang-Punggol LRT systems as well as selected 25 bus services on New Year’s Eve. The schedules of 14 bus services operating between the City/Business District and the heartlands will also be changed on that day.

The last train on the NEL headed towards Punggol will depart HarbourFront Station at 2.16am, while the last train towards HarbourFront will leave Punggol Station at 1.45am. The Sengkang/Punggol LRT systems will also run later until after the last NEL train arrives at their respective town-centre stations.

On the DTL, the last train towards Expo will depart Bukit Panjang Station at 1.48am, while the last train towards Bukit Panjang will leave Expo Station at 1.49am.

To complement the extension of train operational hours, the last bus timings of 25 selected bus services will also run later at their respective bus interchanges/terminal and bus stops on New Year’s Eve. The bus services are: 33, 60A, 63M, 133, 181, 222, 225G, 228, 229, 232, 238, 240, 241, 243G, 261, 269, 291, 292, 293, 315, 325, 400, 410W, 804 and 812.

On top of this, the six Nite Owl services will be extended to operate until 4am.

Meanwhile, 14 bus services will not be operating weekday evening trips on 31 December, as offices will be closed earlier that day. These services will instead operate return trips between 12.51pm and 2pm: 10e, 14e, 30e, 74e, 89e, 128, 151e, 174e, 196e, 513, 654, 655, 660 and 850E.

Finally, 24 bus services will be affected by road closures, with bus stops skipped along their regular routes. They are: 1N, 2N, 3N, 4N, 5N,6N, 10, 56, 57, 70/70M, 99, 100, 107, 111, 130, 131, 133, 162/162M, 195, 196, 240/240M, 246, 400 and 502.
