Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb survives assassination attempt
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb reportedly survived an assassination on him very recently. Surprisingly, however, this news did not receive coverage in mainstream media.
According to a Hindustan Times report, three men tried to break into the security cordon of the chief minister on Thursday night driving in with their vehicle.
The Tripura chief minister escaped unhurt but one of his security personnel sustained some injuries, the report said.
According to a police officer quoted in the report, the incident took place when Biplab Kumar Deb was crossing IGM Chowmuhani during his night walk on Thursday.
The police swung into action and arrested the accused within a few minutes. The trio was charged under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 279 (rash driving), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty) and 307 (attempt to murder).
The mainstream media has been covering Bhaipo's Tripura trip closely.
But how many of you came across the news of an attempted murder on the state's CM Biplab Deb just yesterday? A sitting CM had a close shave, but I guess too much coverage would go against the idea of India 🤷🏾♂️— Ajit Datta (@ajitdatta) August 8, 2021

"They had ignored the signal of the security personnel on the outer cordon and hit one of our police personnel. However, their vehicle didn’t enter the security cordon and the CM had a narrow escape. We arrested them and have taken the matter up. We are investigating the issue to trace if there is any conspiracy behind the incident," said West District superintendent of police Manik Das, as per the report.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Bidyut Sutradhar told wire agency PTI: "We demanded two days of police remand for interrogation, but the court has remanded them to judicial custody till August 19. Now, the police would interrogate them in jail to know their motive behind driving through the security cordon of the chief minister."
