Those travelling to Johor via the Woodlands Checkpoint on early Thursday morning (13 December) from 12 midnight to 1am are advised to re-plan their journey, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a media release on Tuesday.

This is because the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) – the customs, immigrations and quarantine (CIQ) Complex at Johor Baru (JB) – as well as the JB Sentral Railway Station will be conducting an exercise during this period.

Both the CIQ Complex and the railway station will be temporarily closed until the exercise concludes.

Travellers who urgently need to travel using the land checkpoints during this period should consider using the Tuas Checkpoint instead.

Similar exercise last year

On 16 November last year, the BSI CIQ Complex was also temporarily closed between 12am and 2am, as the JB South Police District Office conducted an emergency evacuation exercise there and at the railway station.

JB South District police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais told Malaysian news agency Bernama that the evacuation exercise has been conducted annually since 2011, to ensure that relevant government agencies are prepared for emergency situations.

Around 280,000 people pass through Woodlands Checkpoint every day.
