Honkai: Star Rail reveal the cyborg cowboy Boothill will be an all-new 5-star Physical Hunt character coming in version 2.2 in May

Boothill is an all-new character to Honkai: Star Rail, as he did not appear in any of the promotional material for Penacony.

Honkai: Star Rail version 2.2 is looking more and more exciting as developer HoYoverse revealed on Wednesday (13 March) that the Physical Hunt character Boothill will be the second 5-star character added to the playable roster when the update drops in early May.

As a character that wields the Physical element and follows the Path of the Hunt, Boothill will be specialising in shredding boss enemies with tons of single-target damage — likely using the pistol and lasso he's carrying.

This is the first time that we'll be seeing Boothill, as he did not appear in any of the promotional material for Penacony. This cyborg cowboy is a member of the Galaxy Rangers (and very likely to be a true member, unlike Acheron) who is described as "extremely optimistic and unrestrained" even if he has sworn to punish the wretched by any and all means...

Boothill also has a score to settle with the Interastral Peace Corporation (IPC), the largest and most influential organisation in the Honkai: Star Rail universe that follows Qlipoth the Aeon of Preservation. It's unclear if Boothill's beef is with the entire IPC or just one individual within the organisation, though his pursuit of vengeance will very likely see him butt heads with Aventurine, the representative for the IPC in Penacony.

Boothill will also be the second Physical Hunt character in the game after the 4-star Sushang. With Robin previously being revealed as a 5-star Physical Harmony character, there is also the possibility that she and Boothill may have some sort of synergy by virtue of having the same elemental alignment.

Boothill will be voiced by Andrew Russell in the game's English dub, Katsuyuki Konishi in the Japanese dub, Peng Bo in the Chinese dub, and Kim Dan in the Korean dub.

Based on the order by which they were revealed, Boothill should be the featured 5-star character in the second half of version 2.2 while Robin will take the spotlight in the first half. We can also expect the 4-star character making their debut in version 2.2 to be revealed on Thursday (14 March).

With Honkai: Star Rail version 2.1 expected to be released on 28 March, and assuming it will have the usual 40-day duration, we can expect that version 2.2 as well as Boothill and Robin will be released on 6 May.

Honkai: Star Rail is currently in the second half of version 2.0, which features the debut of Sparkle as well as a rerun for Jing Yuan. If you're still on the fence on who you should pull for this banner, check out our guide here to help you decide.

After version 2.0 comes version 2.1 in late March, which features three new playable characters in Acheron, Aventurine, and Gallagher.
