League of Legends: Arcane's Jinx voice actor tells fans to 'stock up on tissues' for 'devastating' Season 2, says 'nobody will feel good after watching it'
Potential spoiler warning ahead: Season 1 had us crying, so looks like we’re going have to brace ourselves for Season 2.
Fans might remember season one of Arcane, the League of Legends (LoL) animated Netflix series being so dark and painful, especially after the season finale came around. Well, Ella Purnell, Jinx's voice actor, has warned fans: more tears will be shed in Season 2.
The first episode of Arcane Season 1 first aired on 7 November 2021, with the story focusing on the complex relationship between two sisters, Vi and Jinx, as they navigate their way through the social and political turmoil of their world.
The series combines elements of action, adventure, and drama, as well as exploring themes of family, friendship, and betrayal.
Without spoiling anything about the ending, except that it was extremely tragic and absolutely mind-blowing, League of Legends fans like myself now fully understand how the divide between Piltover and Zaun got worse and worse.
And with Riot Games confirming that Arcane is now considered canon lore, all the little details and easter eggs open up more opportunities for expanded and in-depth lore about certain champions.
Season 2 was greenlit by both Netflix and Riot Games in 2022, and the trailer dropped by Netflix in January.
Jinx VA tells fans to she cried and 'other people will cry, too'
In an exclusive interview onTechRadar, Ella did not share any spoilers, but warned the fans to “stock up on tissues.”
"I just went back into the studio to complete some ADR (automated dialogue replacement) for the season 2 finale – and I cried,” Ella shared.
“So, I think other people will cry, too. It's devastating, and nobody will feel good after watching it."
Some fans have theorised that Season 2 will be the end of Jinx and Vi’s story—and I do believe that’s not impossible.
League of Legends players know that both Jinx and Vi never make up, in fact, they are each other’s nemesis. The story between these sisters was only once a conspiracy theory years ago, Riot Games have not confirmed the relationship between these two characters.
In all the previous lore released, Jinx was so fixated on agitating Vi, the Piltover enforcer, and even their interactions and voice lines already hinted toward their relationship.
Since 2017, voice lines like, “You think I’m crazy? You should see my sister,” by Jinx and the ARAM (All Random All Mid) Shopkeeper saying that Vi “looked a lot like [her] sister.”
And even more, because of the way the voice line was delivered, it seemed that Vi did not seem to know she had a sister. Will Season 2 show how Vi forgot who Jinx actually was?
Riot co-founder Brandon Beck sparked the rumour of season 2 being Jinx and Vi’s last season, in an answer he gave in the fifth episode of Bridging the Rift, a behind-the-scenes YouTube series that delved into the lengthy development of Arcane season 1.
Then again, Riot Games confirmed that any lore moving forward is considered canon — so Arcane can change this.
Only a few months more and fans will find out more once Arcane Season 2 releases. Until then, we have enough time to prepare feel-good videos and more tissues and find a shoulder to cry on before the Season 2 finale.
