SCDF puts out early morning blaze at industrial building
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) put out a fire in an industrial building at 191 Ubi Avenue 4 early on Tuesday morning (27 Feb). SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 2am. No injuries were reported.
According to an SCDF Facebook post, the blaze had fully engulfed two storeys of the affected unit by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. The fire was said to involve stockpiles of party supplies like balloons and inflatable items, which were stored on the upper levels of the building.
Two water jets were deployed to control the blaze from within the building, while an additional pair of water jets were deployed to protect adjacent units.
Eleven workers had already evacuated the premises before SCDF turned up, while others were evacuated by the police, SCDF said.
According to SCDF, the fire was put out within two hours. As of 8am Tuesday, damping down – in which burnt surfaces are doused with water after the fire is put out in order to prevent them from rekindling – was in progress.
