Two non-compliant power-assisted bicycles (PABs) were impounded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) following an operation in the vicinity of Bedok Town Centre on Tuesday night (January 30).

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the LTA said the two PABs were each found without a valid LTA seal and illegally modified with a throttle.

The riders of both devices are currently assisting the LTA with investigations.

LTA officers also issued brochures to 35 PAB and personal mobility device users to advocate safe riding habits and regulations, the agency added.

From Thursday (1 Feb), all PABs must be registered and affixed with a valid LTA seal.

Riders caught keeping or using an unregistered PAB or one without a valid number plate can be fined up to $2,000 and/or jailed up to three months.

LTA said it would continue its enforcement efforts against non-compliant users.

Riders can register their devices online at www.onemotoring.com.sg. PABs with blue seals will not be allowed to register.

From Thursday, PAB registration services at SingPost post offices will no longer be available.

A new penalty scheme for errant personal mobility device users kicked in earlier this month. The new changes will see first-time offenders caught on local and major roads fined $300 and $500 respectively. This is $100 more than the fines imposed under the previous scheme.
