Since its launch in 2020, HoYoverse's Genshin Impact has wowed fans with its colourful characters, engaging storyline, vibrant world and active community. Helping players keep their spirits up as the world went through the COVID-19 pandemic, Genshin Impact allowed players to travel to different worlds during a time when real-world travel was severely impacted. Catering to both hardcore and casual players, the gameplay can be as technical as you want it to be, or as relaxing as you need it to be.

While having gacha mechanics, Genshin Impact is surprisingly F2P (Free to Play) friendly, with numerous instances of free virtual currency (primogems), characters, and even weapons tied to events that can often times surpass even some of the gacha weapons. Genshin Impact also caters to a variety of players – you can choose to minmax your team to challenge the Spiral Abyss, play the story alone, complete the ever growing list of achievements, build your own amazing realm in the Serenitea pot, or all of the above.

Game mechanic guides and commentaries

Characters are at the heart of the Genshin Impact story. While you start in the role of the Traveler (one of two twins, depending on the gender you choose), you will quickly meet new characters that can join your team (in a way, canonically, these characters only travel with you during certain quests).

Each character is affiliated with one of the seven elements, which affects the type of Elemental reactions they can produce. The Traveler is unique, possessing the ability to switch between unlocked Elements as the story progresses. The Elements in the game are Anemo (wind), Geo (Earth), Electro (Lightning), Dendro (Nature), Hydro (Water), Pyro (Fire) and Cryo (Ice). Characters can be 4-stars (which are more common and somewhat easier to attain, but also easier to max out in terms of Constellations), and 5-stars, which are rarer and therefore harder to max out, unless you have the almighty 6-star weapon known as a lot of money.

Character opinions and lore

Similar to characters, weapons also come in different levels. At the start, you might be using 3-star weapons (indeed, some of the 3-star weapons are viable even in the endgame), but you’ll naturally progress to 4-star and even 5-star weapons. The current weapons in the game are Sword, Claymore, Polearm, Catalyst and Bow, with each character only able to use one type of weapon.

Weapons and guides

One of the amazing aspects of Genshin Impact is the lore, which draws upon both historical and mythological elements. Within the many in-game texts and objects lie hints at new and upcoming characters, or further expand on what may have been an easily-missed moment in the game. Here are some experiences and thoughts from our writers.

World lore and commentaries

In addition, a game as popular as Genshin Impact, together with an active community, is always making a splash in the real world. Here are some things you might have missed if you’ve been spending all your time in Teyvat.
